    On the connectedness of planar self-affine sets

    In this paper, we consider the connectedness of planar self-affine set T(A,D)T(A,\mathcal{D}) arising from an integral expanding matrix AA with characteristic polynomial f(x)=x2+bx+cf(x)=x^2+bx+c and a digit set D={0,1,,m}v\mathcal{D}=\{0,1,\dots, m\}v. The necessary and sufficient conditions only depending on b,c,mb,c,m are given for the T(A,D)T(A,\mathcal{D}) to be connected.     Crystals of the title compound, C12H14N4S, were obtained from a condensation reaction of 4-amino-3-ethyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole-5(4H)-thione and 2-methyl­benzaldehyde. In the mol­ecular structure, there is a short N=C double bond [1.255 (2) Å], and the benzene and triazole rings are located on opposite sites of this double bond. The two rings are approximately parallel to each other, the dihedral angle being 1.75 (11)°. A partially overlapped arrangement is observed between the nearly parallel triazole and benzene rings of adjacent mol­ecules; the perpendicular distance of the centroid of the triazole ring from the benzene ring is 3.482 Å, indicating the existence of π–π stacking in the crystal structure

    Adenosine A2A Receptors Mediate Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Electroacupuncture on Synovitis in Mice with Collagen-Induced Arthritis

    To study the role of adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) in mediating the anti-inflammatory effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on synovitis in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), C57BL/6 mice were divided into five treatment groups: Sham-control, CIA-control, CIA-EA, CIA-SCH58261 (A2AR antagonist), and CIA-EA-SCH58261. All mice except those in the Sham-control group were immunized with collagen II for arthritis induction. EA treatment was administered using the stomach 36 and spleen 6 points, and stimulated with a continuous rectangular wave for 30 min daily. EA treatment and SCH58261 were administered daily from days 35 to 49 (n=10). After treatment, X-ray radiography of joint bone morphology was established at day 60 and mouse blood was collected for ELISA determination of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) levels. Mice were sacrificed and processed for histological examination of pathological changes of joint tissue, including hematoxylin-eosin staining and immunohistochemistry of A2AR expression. EA treatment resulted in significantly reduced pathological scores, TNF-α concentrations, and bone damage X-ray scores. Importantly, the anti-inflammatory and tissue-protective effect of EA treatment was reversed by coadministration of SCH58261. Thus, EA treatment exerts an anti-inflammatory effect resulting in significant protection of cartilage by activation of A2AR in the synovial tissue of CIA

    Testing quantum entanglement with local measurement

    We propose to detect quantum entanglement by a condition of local measurments. We find that this condition can detect efficiently the pure entangled states for both discrete and continuous variable systems. It does not depend on interference of decoherence from noise and detection loss in some systems, which allows a loophole-free test in real experiments. In particular, it is a necessary condition for the violation of some generalized Bell inequalities.Comment: 5 page

    Assessment and Analysis of a Rainfall–Time-Lagging Water-Related Disaster in Mountainous Areas

    Both global climate change and human activities are continuously impacting the abruptness and frequency of water-related natural disasters such as flash floods, debris flows, and landslides in mountainous areas, greatly threatening the safety of lives and properties. A recent rainfall-induced debris flow event happened on July 6, 2020 in the Chenghuangmiao Gully, in Sichuan Province, China, resulting in severe damage to buildings at the outlet. An integrated analysis of the consequence and triggering mechanism of this debris flow event was conducted with hydrologic information, topographic details, vegetation regimes, and drone aerial imagery. The result shows that the entire runout of the debris flow differs from that of common ones (debris flow and rainfall were highly related and synchronized), which happened 4 h after the stop of the rainfall. The hysteretic feature increases the difficulty of the prediction and warning of the debris flow due to lack of a responsible triggering mechanism. The hillslope surface is well covered by vegetation, hindering regular observation and cleaning up of long-term deposited wood and sediment debris. This effect increases the crypticity and abruptness of potential debris flows. With field evidence and analysis, it is speculated that long-term accumulative processes of dead wood sand sediment deposition formed a small-scale debris dam, and the continuous water release from the watershed led to dam breaching, subsequently triggering the initiation of the debris flow. Multiple steps distributing along the gully of an average slope of 15.65° contributed to the amplification of the debris flow once the breach of the upstream wood and sediment dam occurred. Along the gully, small-scale landslide scars can be observed, possibly amplifying the scale of the debris flow and disaster impact. This debris event gives a lesson of necessary demands of predicting and managing the risks of a low-frequency debris flow non-synchronized with rainfall events

    Repeated Electroacupuncture Persistently Elevates Adenosine and Ameliorates Collagen-Induced Arthritis in Rats

    The aim of this paper was to investigate the effect of repeated electroacupuncture (EA) over 21 days on the adenosine concentration in peripheral blood of rats with collagen-induced arthritis (CIA). Wistar rats were divided into three groups of 6 animals each: sham-control, CIA-control, and CIA-EA. We determined the adenosine concentration in peripheral blood and assessed pathological changes of ankle joints. Quantitative reverse-transcription-polymerase chain reaction was used to determine mRNA levels of ecto-5′-nucleotidase (CD73), adenosine deaminase (ADA), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect expression of ADA and CD73 in synovial tissue. Repeated EA treatment on CIA resulted in the persistence of high concentrations of adenosine in peripheral blood, significantly reduced pathological scores, TNF-α mRNA concentrations, and synovial hyperplasia. Importantly, EA treatment led to a significant increase in CD73 mRNA levels in peripheral blood but was associated with a decrease of CD73 immunostaining in synovial tissue. In addition, EA treatment resulted in a significant decrease of both ADA mRNA levels in peripheral blood and ADA immunostaining in synovial tissue. Thus, repeated EA treatment exerts an anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory effect on CIA by increasing the concentration of adenosine. The mechanism of EA action may involve the modulation of CD73 and ADA expression levels

    Role of signaling pathways in age-related orthopedic diseases: focus on the fibroblast growth factor family

    Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling encompasses a multitude of functions, including regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation, morphogenesis, and patterning. FGFs and their receptors (FGFR) are crucial for adult tissue repair processes. Aberrant FGF signal transduction is associated with various pathological conditions such as cartilage damage, bone loss, muscle reduction, and other core pathological changes observed in orthopedic degenerative diseases like osteoarthritis (OA), intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), osteoporosis (OP), and sarcopenia. In OA and IVDD pathologies specifically, FGF1, FGF2, FGF8, FGF9, FGF18, FGF21, and FGF23 regulate the synthesis, catabolism, and ossification of cartilage tissue. Additionally, the dysregulation of FGFR expression (FGFR1 and FGFR3) promotes the pathological process of cartilage degradation. In OP and sarcopenia, endocrine-derived FGFs (FGF19, FGF21, and FGF23) modulate bone mineral synthesis and decomposition as well as muscle tissues. FGF2 and other FGFs also exert regulatory roles. A growing body of research has focused on understanding the implications of FGF signaling in orthopedic degeneration. Moreover, an increasing number of potential targets within the FGF signaling have been identified, such as FGF9, FGF18, and FGF23. However, it should be noted that most of these discoveries are still in the experimental stage, and further studies are needed before clinical application can be considered. Presently, this review aims to document the association between the FGF signaling pathway and the development and progression of orthopedic diseases. Besides, current therapeutic strategies targeting the FGF signaling pathway to prevent and treat orthopedic degeneration will be evaluated

    A simulation study on the measurement of D0-D0bar mixing parameter y at BES-III

    We established a method on measuring the \dzdzb mixing parameter yy for BESIII experiment at the BEPCII e+ee^+e^- collider. In this method, the doubly tagged ψ(3770)D0D0\psi(3770) \to D^0 \overline{D^0} events, with one DD decays to CP-eigenstates and the other DD decays semileptonically, are used to reconstruct the signals. Since this analysis requires good e/πe/\pi separation, a likelihood approach, which combines the dE/dxdE/dx, time of flight and the electromagnetic shower detectors information, is used for particle identification. We estimate the sensitivity of the measurement of yy to be 0.007 based on a 20fb120fb^{-1} fully simulated MC sample.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figure
